The grandfather of a member of staff at The Childrens Society, Mr W. J. Roberts, 89 years of age wished to make a donation in memory of "a brave young man". This elderly gentleman is the son of a miner who went down the mines at just 15 years of age and grew up with stories of mining tragedies that often claimed the lives of the young. "That young man showed courage rarely seen in one so young these days, Id like to give something too."
